Theatre, Music, Events and Film Nights in the Langfords

Theatre, Music, Events and Film Nights in the Langfords

Theatre, Music, Events and Films

Few things are as rewarding as looking around the audience at one of our live events and seeing the sheer delight and pleasure everyone is having from being part of a small group enjoying a professional performance with like minded neighbours and others from nearby communities.

Every two or three months we bring professional live entertainment to the hall - sometimes it’s music, sometimes comedy and sometimes theatre. Occasionally it’s a mixture of all three. In the summer we bring a theatrical touring troop to the village to perform at the Cricket Ground and it’s an occasion for the community to get together with their picnics and families to watch a play or musical of national standards.

From time to time we put on other live activities from art exhibitions and photo competitions to wine tasting. There’s something for everyone and we are always open to new ideas.

Evening with Two Talks on Aspects of Local History

27th February at Langford Parish Hall

7.30pm: Life in the Workhouse by Sally Hendry

Sally talks on the origins of workhouses - their history, aims and conditions, focussing on the Westbury and Wilton workhouses.

8.15pm: Break

8.30pm: The History and Fascination of Place Names by Tony Painter

Tony will cover the origins of place names, including some local names, and illustrate how the ways names, ranging from towns and villages down to streets, fields and even pubs, can reveal past ways of life.

Planned finish at about 9.15pm

The talks are illustrated Powerpoint presentations intended to be fairly light hearted and entertaining. There will be an opportunity to ask questions after both talks. About the speakers: Sally Hendry from Westbury is a distinguished local historian and author and a curator of Westbury museum. Tony Painter, from Upton Scudamore, is a former MoD analyst and writes local histories for Alan Godfrey maps.

Phil Bates ELO2

6th June at Langford Parish Hall

Expect some of his original songs, some fabulous reworkings of his favourite Beatles Songs, a few covers and of course the show wouldn’t be complete without him performing some of those ELO timeless classic hits which made them one of the biggest bands in the world.
