About Arts in the Langfords
Arts in the Langfords is a group of volunteers who have set up a community based organisation to support arts in the Wylye.
Three years ago we started Wylye Valley Cinema in the Langfords Village Hall - we show films every month using the Moviola Network.
Little did we realise what a success that this was going to be ! We now have audiences of over 50 attending our films on 2 consecutive nights each month. This has had a positive affect on our community here in the Langfords - people arrive early to meet each other, its a great place for newcomers to come and meet people and we are bringing the cinema to people without the need to drive into Salisbury or Frome. And our village hall - which was being used less and less- is now full twice every month. We have used the proceeds of the cinema to invest in new and wonderful audio visual equipment giving our audience an even better experience.
Buoyed by our success we wondered what else could we do for our community ? So last December (2018) the fabulous local band ‘The Melodaemons’ played to a full to capacity village hall. In February (2019), after listening to Pam Ayres recommend them on Desert Island Discs, The Opera Dudes played again to a full village hall - and Arts in the Langfords was born! We have a weekly portrait painting group, a wine tasting in May, and we are hosting the Wylye Vally Arts Trail in May. In, July (2019) we are planning our most ambitious project to date - we have ‘The Handlebards’ coming to present ‘The Tempest ‘ in their unique way on our cricket ground .
Whilst And I should say none of us have a background in Arts -we are just an enthusiastic group who are keen on building our much loved community through Arts ! We are always looking for new ideas, events and volunteers. Please feel free to make contact and joint us as Arts in the Langfords grows from strength to strength.
Wylye Valley Cinema Story
Wylye Valley Cinema is run by volunteers in The Langfords who are enthusiastic about bringing entertaining, challenging and interesting films to the community in a social and relaxed environment. It is operated under the auspices of Langford Parish Hall which is the venue for the films we show.
Everyone is welcome whether from the Parish or elsewhere. We can seat about 60 people in comfortable chairs so it's best to make a reservation by email and pay at the door to avoid disappointment. But it's always worth just coming along and we'll do our best to make sure you can get to see the show.
We source our films through Moviola.
Every four months they provide us with a list of about 40 recent and pre release films from which we select our choices for the coming season. Not just our regular monthly films but from time to time a "special" show to recognise an occasion or "just because". All licensing and distribution requirements are managed by Moviola.
